Before we talk about Substack, I want to wish you all a belated Happy New Year for 2025! We hope this year is your best year yet!
We’ve moved our website and newsletter to Substack!
This will not affect what you receive from us, but I wanted to let you know anyway because of a few changes, for the better!
You will still receive updates right here in your inbox. You can still visit the website to read everything we publish and access the archives.
What is substack?
Substack is a publishing platform.
On Substack, you can find everybody from Stephen Fry to Dominic Cummings. On Substack, you can find people writing long-form content on every subject including outdoor enthusiasts, and home-educating families like us!
The best way to tell you what Substack is, is by having a look around for yourself.
It’s an interesting place!
Why move to substack?
The main reason we have moved to Substack is because it’s free (sort of). The previous website and newsletter was a Ghost website hosted by Ghost Pro. Ghost Pro has unfortunately become too expensive for us to continue there.
We may return to Ghost at some point in the future, but for the foreseeable future, Substack is where we shall call home.
There are a few other reasons why we moved from Ghost, with Substack offering more functions (notes, podcasts, etc) and being part of a community of publishers. I feel excited for the opportunities ahead.
I will expand more on this in future newsletters.
Managing your account
You can manage your account as you have always been able to do.
Clicking on the button below (it will probably say ‘Subscribed’) will take you to your account page. Once in your account, you can make any changes you wish. Including email preferences and deleting your account if you feel the need to.
Notes, Chat and even an app!
Notes: Substack comes with its version of social media, only less intense, called Notes. You can see our Notes in the main menu on the website (and in the app) although we haven’t posted anything yet. But we will, very soon!
Chat: Along with Notes substack comes with a chat function, allowing you as subscribers to chat with us and other subscribers. Chat integrates with the website and is an extension of our publication on the Substack platform.
App: Substack even has an app! You can follow us and receive all of our posts via the app, not just by email!
What’s happening in 2025?
I will write a post about what we have been working on throughout December and January very soon. I know I have been quiet recently, but it's been for good reasons.
We also need to talk about some of the plans (in the loosest sense of the work) for 2025!
So there you have it, a brief update and a move to a more sustainable future.
Talk to you all soon.
Ian, Sarah & Eve
Good to see you on here guys. I already follow a couple of people on Substack and find it significantly less 'in your face' than other platforms. Looking forward to continuing to read about your adventures.
